Operating Principles

The Founding Principles of Direct Democracy New Zealand are:

  1. First and foremost Direct Democracy New Zealand is a People's grass-roots movement advocating national unity and true political representation of the People's intentions.
  2. The members of Direct Democracy New Zealand (The Movement) recognize the unavoidable fact that present political arrangements dominated by sector interests and party politics deny honest representation to the citizens of our nation.
  3. Our goal is to maintain the freedoms and advantages of our British legal traditions, our sovereignty, and our unity by improving our methods of  representation by ensuring politicians are directly responsible to the voters.
  4. Accordingly we citizens are organising to employ social and political means to achieve our goal of Direct Representation and to reclaim our sovereign control of the this land and nation.
  5. Direct Democracy New Zealand (The Party) is our chosen method of expressing individual choice and our shared political freedom. In practice Direct Democracy means the political parties are constitutionally and legally bound to serve the people of this nation, any other party political agenda is out of bounds.
  6. Direct Democracy is the political culture for protecting freedom. This means that The Party opposes the anti-freedom oppressiveness of Communism, totalitarianism, Collectivism, Marxism-Leninism, Socialism, Fascism, Tribalism and Sharia Law. The Party will act at every opportunity to repel from New Zealand these anti-Direct Democracy ideologies and systems.
Refer to the website section on Direct Democracy for an overview of the Tools of Direct Democracy.
  • For example, Binding Citizens Initiated Referenda (BCIR) is one proven democratic method for people to assert their free political choice. This means all BCIR are to be constitutionally binding on the government.
  • Optional Referendum is another tool by which the People can modify proposed new legislation. The proposed law from the parliament is scrutinized and either amended, discarded or put to a referendum.
  • Free Speech means the open and unfettered exercise, expression, and celebration of Free Speech across the land by all people. Free Speech is the necessary mechanism for the operation of Direct Democracy.
  • One Law for All means: a) rejection of race-based policies, with only equal representation before the law, and b) the right of ‘habeas corpus’ and trial by a jury of peers.
  • National Defence means the first duty of government is to secure the safety of its people through a potent defence force and policing, with the capability to protect the nation from aggression without and treason within.
  • New Zealand's traditions embrace the principles of Direct Democracy. For example in 1840, at the nation's inception, Queen Victoria’s Royal Charter/Letters Patent sets out the basis of New Zealand’s Constitutional arrangements and the equal status of persons, including tangata maori, under British law.
  • In 1891 our parliament Constitutional Reform Committee recommended that this nation adopt the Swiss style of Democratic Representation. Career politicians of the time blocked this proposal. Now is the time for the New Zealand People to reclaim their right to Direct Democratic Representation.
  • We note that  New Zealand’s Constitution and Commonwealth are affirmed by the merits of Western Civilisation.
  • The nation of New Zealand belongs to the patriotic New Zealand people and there is no obligation upon us to open the country to immigration, especially of people who do not respect or accept our sovereignty, the primacy of our laws and  the value of our traditions and way of life.
  • We do not subscribe to the Globalist Agenda, although we maintain a fundamental interest in the global health of our planet.
